“How soon can we come on the market? We were thinking next Thursday.”

We bought our dream house with Anne’s help, and had been making renovation plans for over two years… Pool, cabana, reviving the adjacent little vineyard that had been abandoned when the original Italian owners moved away…. The plans were underway!

But when life’s trajectory changes, we have to change with it, and suddenly we had an amazing house that we didn’t need.

Two weeks after that call to Anne, we had sprouted new grass (Anne bought, planted, and continually watered the seeds herself), planted flowers and laid sod, painted, replaced carpet, staged, photographed, videoed, and came to market at breakneck speed, with a gorgeous website and a neighborhood debut party, catered by Anne herself.

It was the hardest two weeks of my life, and also probably of Anne’s, but the payoff was breathtaking. Two weeks of work over two years of ownership isn’t bad! And somehow Anne managed to secure the most perfect buyers, who took over where we left off, planning and planting and dreaming and scheming. The dream was no longer ours, but it was still alive.
